Batiya is an unusual tool that comes from Yakutia. It is used for everyday work that requires a large blade, skinning game, working with wood and hides. The blade has a distinctive asymmetrical grind known from Yakutian blades.
My interpretation of this tool was created with a 50HF spring steel blade, forged by hand and traditionally heat treated The Yakutian grind is right-handed, the blade is flat, with a carved hollow on the right side and has a convex on the left. The handle is Karelian birch, treated with tung oil.
The tang runs through the full length of the handle and is pinned at the butt.
The scabbard was created from birch and has a leather strap to secure the tool to the belt.
