FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

How to take care of the knife?

It seems pretty obvious, but from time to time someone tries to use a kitchen knife with a fine cutting edge to cut frozen meat or baton a branch. Unfortunately, such attempts may end in serious damage to the knife, which will not be covered by the warranty. Similarly, when using the tip of a knife as a screwdriver or crowbar.

Most of my knives are made from steels that require little maintenance to prevent rusting. After use, the knife should be wiped dry and lubricated with a little edible oil. The dark stains that can appear on the blade after contact with certain foods (such as fruit) are a natural patina that protects the blade from rust. Some of my knives are covered with such a natural coating from new. No knives of my production can be washed in the dishwasher!

Wooden handles can be occasionally rubbed with edible oil or a bit of natural wax, but they should not be heated in the process. Handles made of synthetic materials such as micarta, carbon fiber or G10 require no special maintenance other than keeping them clean. Stag and head components made of brass, bronze or plain steel can, like blades, develop a natural patina over time, which is not abnormal.

The most important thing is not to put a dirty or wet knife in the scabbard. Mud, sand and other debris will stay inside, scratching and dulling the knife blade every time it is pulled out. Leather scabbards occasionally require a light rubbing with edible oil or grease for leather preservation, such as PALC brand. Kydex, ABS or hybrid scabbards are also vulnerable to very low temperatures. Hitting or dropping such a vagina then can result in its rupture.
